CHAPTER 37: This Is War

Smith paced back and forth in La Familia’s stash house, furious over Des’ decision to merge the Dynasty with the Brothahood. Angry and out of control, Smith took his frustrations out on the furniture, tossing some of everything he could get his hands on.

“Are you done?” Murdock nonchalantly asked. “By you having temper tantrums isn’t doing anything to rectify the situation. You need to calm down, and figure yo ass down, so we can discuss our next move.”

“We’re done, it’s over.” Smith screamed. “I never expected him to make a move like this. I wasn’t prepared for it.”

“Did you speak to her?” Murdock asked.

“Who are you talking about?” Smith wondered, “Ms. D?”

“No, not her, the other broad,” Murdock replied.

“Yeah, I spoke to her already.” Smith informed him. “She’s on board.”

“Then we have our next move.” Murdock replied. “I’ve already informed Ms. D about the plan, and she’s cool with it . . . So everything’s a go.”

“When did you speak to her?” Smith asked. “I’ve been trying to reach her for days, but she hasn’t texted me back yet.”

“She’s busy handling other matters at the moment.” He informed him.

“What matters is that?” Smith questioned. “She needs to be focused on the matter at hand . . . We are hours away from seeing months of planning go to waste.”

“She’s well aware of that.” Murdock replied. “She’s just as invested in the end game as we are. That’s why she agrees it’s time to step our game up. It’s time to spark the flame that will ignite the war between the Dynasty and the Brotherhood.”

Smith stared suspiciously at Murdock, wondering what game he was playing. From La Familia’s inception, Murdock has been the only one who seems to know more about Ms. D than Smith did, because the only contact Smith had with Ms. D was through text message. It’s the only way he’d been able to receive orders from her. However, listing to Murdock ramble on about Ms. D’s thoughts and here current whereabouts was causing Smith to have pause. Moreover, Smith was beginning to feel like Murdock knew Ms. D’s true identity, a fact that has eluded him all this time.

“Let me ask you something.” Smith asked. “Who is Ms. D?”

“What do you mean?” Murdock asked, pretending he didn’t understand the question.

“I mean, you talking like you know her intimately.” Smith questioned. “I’ve been talking to her via text for months. I don’t know what she looks or sounds like for that matter. But you . . . You sound like you know a hell of a lot more than you’re letting on.”

“Is her identity really important?” Murdock replied, avoiding his questions. “She’s a major player for our team, and that’s all that matters.”

“Why wouldn’t it be important?” Smith retorted. “We stand to lose everything if Des, or Dante for that matter, somehow figures shit out.”

“Then I advise you to do what needs to be done to keep that from happening.” Murdock informed him. “That means get your shit together, and play your role.
